Unexpected Surprise at the CMN Conference

Last week the children and I went to the Catholic Marketing Network Conference in New Jersey USA.  The conference began on Wednesday with Mass.  At Mass I noticed a beautiful family of 5 with three children.  The youngest had a St. Therese doll in her arms.  Seeing them I had a little thought, they would make a beautiful Children's Rosary group.

Later that afternoon standing at our booth I saw the same family.  They were coming right for us with big smiles.  When they reached us they were so excited to share that they are our new Children's Rosary from Cliffside Park, New Jersey USA.  I couldn't believe it.  This family which I had hoped might start a Children's Rosary was already part of one. Their new group is located at Epiphany Church in Cliffside Park, New Jersey.  Although we had never met, it was like we were old friends.  Everyone was laughing and we were all so full of joy.  They had no idea the Children's Rosary would have a booth at the Conference so they were just as surprised as I was to meet.

Esmeralda had wonderful stories to share from their group. She shared that a young 7 year girl had attended one of their first meetings.  The group has only met twice so far.  The parents of the little 7 year old girl shared that after the Children's Rosary meeting their daughter each night would ask when the family would say the Rosary.  She was so persistent that the family now says the Rosary each night together.  Esmeralda also shared that one of the children at the meeting had a question for everyone, "what would be her reward for saying the Rosary".  The little 7 year old girl was quick to have an answer, she said "you get Jesus".  Out of the mouths of babes...just beautiful!

The beautiful stories would continue.  The family continued that they had made a doll in honor of St. Therese.  Maria loved the doll so much she would always carry it.  One of the things she hoped was that people would ask her about her doll.  Indeed the family shared this happens frequently.  When they are on the ferry or other places people routinely ask Maria about her doll.  It is then that Maria can share with them about St. Therese the Little Flower.  I marveled at Maria and her love to share her faith. Indeed children can be one of the most effective evangelizers.  They bring so much joy and love to what they do that most find it hard not to find the time to listen to what they have to say.  Meeting this family made my heart smile.  It was surely a gift from Our Lord.  In no way did I deserve to see the fruits of the time we spend spreading the Children's Rosary but Our Lord in his kindness took His precious time to arrange such a meeting.  The family shared that they had just come from Adoration when they came upon our booth.  Further evidence to me that Our Lord had a hand in our meeting.  Indeed there was much to be grateful for that day and indeed the joy continues in thinking about this family and their group.  I share all these things that all of you reading may share in this joy.  It is through the prayers of so many that little groups like this continue to form.   The family also shared their experiences of the Children's Rosary on a website they have called the Power of the Rosary.

Over the next week we have many Children's Rosary groups meeting. Please consider joining the children in prayer.  The children always pray for those unifying prayers with them.

Thy Kingdom Come

Recently we shared the good news of our first Children's Rosary group in Pakistan.   This new group initially was meeting weekly but during their summer three month holiday decided to meet daily both in the morning and evening.  The group leader shared that day by day the group was growing and they were in need of more supplies.  Along with more Rosaries there was a surprise in store for this new group.  It was a statue of Our Blessed Mother.  Upon receiving the box the group brought it to the Church and prayed before opening it.  Seeing Our Lady and the sea of Rosaries around her, the group had the wonderful inspiration to travel to another village and help begin a second Children's Rosary group.  Thus on July 12th 2015 a new Children's Rosary group was Consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary at St. Joseph Church in Ashrif Town Pakistan. This group decided to meet daily.  In prayer the children felt called to not only pray in the Church but to go to the home of a family who was experiencing illness.  The family was frightened.  The group went to this home and prayed with the family...filling the home to its capacity.  The children knelt and with Rosaries in hand prayed together.  One can imagine the surprise of this family to find so many children on their knees praying with them.  The group leader shared that the children brought a deep consolation and joy to this family.  The children also shared their rosaries with the family.

The family was so grateful to receive the Rosaries and expressed great thanks.  This week in Mass there have been several readings about the Kingdom of Heaven.  In one of the Gospels it is compared to a mustard seed that being one of the smallest seeds that once planted it can grow to one of the biggest trees where birds find rest in its branches (cf. Mathew 13:31-32). Seeing these little children in prayer one begins to see a glimpse of the Kingdom.  Indeed from something so small a great many lonely and worried hearts can take comfort and rest in their shade.  Indeed the children are helping to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to us right here.  Their love, simplicity and gentleness explains a great deal of what what Our Lord has planned for us.  The words we repeat over and over in the Rosary come to mind "Thy Kingdom come on earth as it is in Heaven."

A View From Heaven

Last week the children unveiled a special project we had been working on for some time.  It was the world as it would be seen from heaven with the Children's Rosary groups visible almost as twinkling lights.  This image of the world from a great distance above the earth was something that has long been in my heart.  Often I would imagine each group as a light radiating up to heaven carrying the sweet prayers of children.  As more groups formed the light would coalesce forming a stronger brighter light.

As the children come to Our Lord with an open heart and with their innocence one can imagine their prayers rise with a very pure light.  One that travels a great distance to find the heart of their Heavenly Father.  What joy must be found in heaven to see such children praying a prayer, the Holy Rosary, that is so dear to Our Blessed Mother and her Son.  As we know from Scripture, "where two or three are gathered in My Name there am I in their midst" (Matthew 18:20).  Through these little prayer groups indeed Our Lord is called down to be with us and hence the light shines all the more brilliantly...illuminating the darkness.

To see such lights growing in number around our tired world a beautiful hope wells.  The children are praying that more groups form so they can keep adding to the lights on this map.  There are many who are bringing materials and news of the Children's Rosary to distant places and also close to home in their own parishes.  We continue to pray that their efforts are fruitful.  Yet each person seeing this has the ability to fill the sky with more and more light.  I am continually amazed to see the diverse people Our Lord and His Mother are calling to start new Children's Rosary prayer groups.  Recently we have seen many individuals with disabilities forming groups as well as grandparents. Often I have marveled at how Our Lord will use our infirmities or brokenness to show His glory.  "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness"(2 Corinthians 12:9). Indeed it would seem the more we rely on Him the more He supports us and helps that which seemed impossible for us to do on our own.  In many ways the humility of the children and their dependence is a guiding light for us all.

Mary Will You Be My Travel Agent

Yesterday after Mass several of us stayed to pray the Rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet. There were three of us that stayed to pray together.  After praying Sean wanted to share something with us.   A story of a request he made to Our Blessed Mother 22 years earlier.

It began one day after a days work at the cafeteria.  He entered our chapel to pray the Rosary as he did each afternoon.  On this particular day he came beside our Lady and put his hand on her shoulder.  A statue of her stood as one enters the chapel.  He had a hope and prayer in his heart that he might see his mother in Ireland once more before she died and pray the Rosary with her.    Sean is originally from the Aran Islands which are part of Ireland.   In his adulthood he had moved to the United States.  He grew up one of 10 children praying the Rosary at his mother's knee each night.  His earliest memories were of praying the Rosary.  Now with his mother's health declining he wanted to see her one more time and pray the Rosary with her.  Sean shared with us that on that afternoon with his hand on Our Blessed Mother's shoulder he made a request of her.  He asked her to be his travel agent...to help him to see his mother one more time before she died and pray the Rosary with her.

Sean went on to share that he had begun thinking how he might make such a trip.  He imagined that he would need to wait until summer which was 9 months off when his daughter would be home from college and could fill in for him at the cafeteria.  Yet things would unfold in a very different way.  Instead of waiting until summer he would find himself home for Christmas and praying by his mother's side just as he had hoped.  Each step he marveled was completely opposite from how he had planned it.  Yet each piece fell into place perfectly.  As Sean sat there telling the story he gazed out with a smile on his face and tears  in his eyes recalling each part. Sean has since lost his sight over the past 20 years.  Yet one could see him bringing back to his mind's eye each detail.  He shared that on the last day of his visit, the day before New Years Day, he sat with his mother.  They were praying the Rosary.  His mother was looking out the window and all of a sudden both of them began to laugh almost uncontrollably.  They were so happy.  His sister called down to find out what was so funny and neither Sean nor his mother could say what it was they were laughing about but they felt so much joy in their hearts.  Sean later felt that this was a special gift that he and his mother received that day, a rejoicing together.  This as it would turn out, would indeed be the last Rosary they would say together and the last day they would spend together.
Sean left the next day for a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Knock.  The bus dropped him off some distance from the Shrine and he began to walk hoping to find a Bed and Breakfast to spend the night.  Soft fluffy snow was falling on the hay fields.  A women met him on the road and offered to have her son give Sean a ride as soon as he was back from the field.  The friendly mother and son indeed did give Sean a ride and brought him to the door of a Bed and Breakfast near the Shrine.  The women who answered felt terrible but the room they normally rent had no heat.  Sean asked if she had a hot water bottle and she said yes.  The stay was perfect and in reflection, he felt all was perfectly put together.  This husband and wife had no children and were delighted to have company for the holiday.  As Sean finished his story he said that several weeks ago on his walk to Mass he was thinking about this visit.  He was thinking about how things had turned out so different from what he imagined but yet so perfectly.  He said it was then that a thought came to mind...didn't you ask me to plan it?

Indeed he had asked Our Lady.  The thought was his own but the sentiment brought him a great deal of joy.

Hearing this story from Sean was honey for my heart.  Sean is in his mid seventies and has spent his life devoted to praying Rosary and attending daily Mass.  He is now blind yet he knows the route to Church so well he comes rain or shine.  The friendship he shares with Our Blessed Mother is a deep one.  He has led a simple life of work, family and prayer.  He has known suffering but also pure joy.

Sean is also a member of Our Children's Rosary and attends our monthly meetings at St. Thomas.  He can't see the children but loves to sit in the back and hear the children praying.  My 11 year old son often helps him navigate around the Church.  You can see Sean in the middle of our theme song video for "Rosary Children"

Happy Feast of St. Anne and St. Joachim!

A number of grandparents attended our most recent Children's Rosary at
St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Hartford CT.  The children shared roses with
their grandparents at the end of the meeting.
Today we remember the parents of Our Blessed Mother and the grandparents of Jesus.  In a special way, we ask for their blessing on all of our members and the children.

There is an appreciation for all our grandparents and the important role they play in the family and within the Children's Rosary prayer group movement.

We thank Our Lord for our grandparents and pray for them.

A grandmother and her granddaughter help lead a
Children's Rosary in Middleboro, MA USA
We have many group leaders and members of the Children's Rosary who are grandparents and I humbly thank all of you for your sacrifices and prayers for the little ones.  In turn we pray for you and ask Our Lord to be especially generous with His blessings on all of you and your families.

During the month of July we have encouraged groups to invite grandparents to attend meetings and also encourage grandparents to bring their grandchildren to a Children's Rosary meeting.  This is the second year we have done this and hope to make it an annual tradition.

This week we have many groups meeting.  Please join the children in prayer.  The children always pray for those unifying prayers with them.

Mass Offered Today for Members of the Children's Rosary

Caption: Children's Rosary at St. Keiran School in
Sandgate, Queensland Australia
Today a Mass was offered by the Capuchin Friars for all the members of the Children's Rosary and all those who help the Children's Rosary.  We continue to have a Mass said for this intention on the 25th of each month. The Eucharist is such a powerful gift from Our Lord that when I wanted to extend thanksgiving to you all I knew of no better way to express my gratitude.  May Our Lord's love be poured down on all of you through the powerful sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

We are taking you all with us to the CMN Conference

Next Tuesday our family will be driving to New Jersey USA to attend the Catholic Marketing Network Conference.  We will have a Children's Rosary booth at the Conference.  The children and members of the Children's Rosary have been working on a special display.  As the Children's Rosary includes groups from around the world we wanted to bring you all there with us.  Each group will be shown on our handmade map of the world.  The view is one from heaven of the world at night.  The groups are white as they are like little twinkling lights shining up to heaven.

Please pray for us and know we will be praying for you.  One of the blessings of this week will be all day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and Mass every day.

If you see infrequent postings next week please know we are with you in prayer.  Days tend to be long but we feel extremely grateful to the Lord for allowing us to be there and continue to help spread the Children's Rosary to more and more parishes throughout the world until the sky is a glow with prayers of children going up from every corner of the globe.

If you have yet to register your Children's Rosary group please contact us as we would like to include you all.

Over the next week we have many Children's Rosary groups meeting.  We invite you to join the children in prayer.  The children always pray for those unifying prayers with them.
